Club Firsts: First US Open Cup Match - Rare
On April 16, 2024, Rhode Island FC travelled to American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, NC to take on the Charlotte Independence in the third round of the 2024 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup (USOC). This marks the state of Rhode Island's return to USOC competition for the first time since 1997 when the Rhode Island Stingrays were defeated in a first round match. RIFC will look to return the cup to Rhode Island and the city of Pawtucket, with the state's last tournament victory coming in 1994 when Pawtucket SC won the Open Cup Final against Detroit's Chrysler SC 6-5 in a two-game match.
